Why do my hearing aids squeal in certain rooms or corners?

“Why do my ReSound LiNX Quattro hearing aids squeal when I’m in certain corners of my house or in small rooms?”

Thanks for sharing this — many people experience something similar, and it can definitely be frustrating.

Hearing aids can sometimes squeal or whistle in small rooms or tight spaces because sound reflects off nearby walls and surfaces. When amplified sound leaks slightly from the ear and gets picked up again by the microphones, it can create what’s commonly called feedback.

This tends to happen more often when:

  • The hearing aid or receiver isn’t sitting quite right in the ear

  • There’s earwax buildup or a clogged wax guard

  • Volume is set higher than needed for that space

  • You’re close to hard surfaces (corners, bathrooms, kitchens)

A few simple things many people try first:

  • Clean the hearing aids and change wax guards if needed

  • Re-seat the device to make sure it’s fitting securely

  • Lower the volume slightly using the app or controls

  • Notice patterns — does it happen only in certain rooms or positions?

If it keeps happening, a hearing professional can often adjust settings or fit to reduce feedback.
